London based Stuart Chorley has over 20 years experience as a photographer, both above and below water. Underwater photography has become his speciality, shooting for Advertising Clients such as McCann’s Japan (for Panasonic), Lowe Lintas, FCB, Grey, Publicis, and JWT Worldwide, creating a series of images for Shell.

He has worked with Feature Film Production Companies on shoots needing photographic skills, Sexy Beast, Creep and numerous commercials. This has also spilled over into publicity work for Channel 4 including ‘The Armando Iannuchi Show’, ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ and publicity for Channel 5 amongst others.

Shooting underwater has also moved into the studio, making exciting new backgrounds and ways to show products in a new and innovative way.

It is difficult for clients to view underwater activity when shooting, so to enable them to contribute to the creative process, live viewing and talkback facilities can be provided, both in studio tank and open-water. Full communications can be established, even from over a mile away on the ocean, via micro-wave links from Camera to Client. If needed, images can be recorded onto tape for later play-back. “You see what we see.”

Today’s moves towards Underwater Digital photography is incorporated into the work that is produced through the high-end capture on medium format Hassleblad at the front end, or scanning the film at the other end, depending upon the commission. Technology today means that the captured underwater digital images can be reviewed on location straight away.
